It's time for gongs, in the British New Year Honours List that is.
On the celebrity front there are OBE's for Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi of Status Quo (for their contributions to music and charity) and a Knighthood for Star Trek's Patrick Stewart (for his services to drama).
Surely it's about time we scrapped these outdated awards - the fact that the 'British Empire' is mentioned (OBE) is almost laughable.
