FC Barcelona, reigning European champions, handed over the Champions League trophy to the city of Munich.
The Champions League trophy is waiting in Germany. FC Barcelona sent a delegation, led by President Sandro Rosell and vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu, to Munich to hand over the trophy that Barça won at Wembley on May 28 of last year to the UEFA President Michel Platini, who then gave the trophy to the Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude. The German city will host the final of the this year’s competition on May 19.
Every season the reigning European champions return the trophy to the host city. Athletic director Andoni Zubizarreta, football director Raül Sanllehí and director of the youth system Guillermo Amor were also present at the event. The trophy hand-off also serves as the inaugural event for the host city. (via FCBarcelona.com)
