Kyra Sedgwick And Kevin Bacon Stung By Bernard Madoff

It is now being reported that a several celebrities were caught out by the massive Bernard Madoff fraud. Kevin Bacon and his other half Kyra Sedgwick are amongst the Hollywood Insiders who fell foul of this Ponzi style swindle.

The spokesperson for Kevin and Kyra admitted that they did have investments with Madoff but declined to say how much this amounted to.

Also named as losers were Steven Spielberg, Eric Roth and Jeffrey Katzenberg. They obviously didn't follow the age old advice that, if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Of course, the fact is, that people get greedy and that's why they get taken in.

New Year's Honours List

The UK's New Year's Honours list has been published. Though I'm British myself I feel this is so outdated and in lots of cases farcical. However, these are the few from the entertainment world who received various honours plus one who didn't.

Robert Plant. The lead from Led Zeppelin, 60, was awarded the CBE*.

Michael Sheen, the actor, was given an OBE*.

Liz Smith the actress known for her part in the Royle Family received an MBE*.

John Martyn, singer, 60, landed himself an OBE.

Courtney Pine, the jazz musician, 48, got a CBE.

Terry Pratchett, author of Discworld and other books, 60, was 'flabbergasted' at being awarded a Knighthood. So he'll now be known as a 'Sir'.

And, fortunately, that's the lot. It wasn't too swamped out with 'luvvies' this year but Bruce Forsyth, the 80 year old entertainer and presenter of Strictly Come Dancing, didn't get his Knighthood. Oh dear! Petitions had been set up and all sorts of pressure brought. But you can't force the Palace! One silly newspaper said it was 'an insult to the world of entertainment' - which made me laugh.

One of the reasons as to why he didn't get anything is because he received a gong in 2005 and therefore, normally speaking, can't be nominated for anything else for five years. So he'll most probably have to wait until 2010.

Personally I don't understand why an entertainer, actor, singer and the like should get any such award for doing a job that they enjoy and get well paid for. There are deserving people who have actually done something worthwhile for the country who come far ahead of this lot.

Tom Chambers Wins Strictly Come Dancing

Tom Chambers and his professional partner Camilla Dallerup won UK's Strictly Come Dancing last night with a spectacular, quirky final show dance. This is the equivalent of the USA's Dancing With The Stars.

The question being asked though is as to whether this is a dancing or a popularity contest.

It's turned into something that mustn't be taken too seriously - as we have seen from the John Sergeant experience and the dodgy voting of last week. The BBC even altered the rules for last night's voting as well.

We have to accept that Strictly Come Dancing is simply entertainment that gets us all hooked, the dancing is almost secondary. It's fun and should be seen in that way. Let's all lighten up and take it for what it is.

After winning Tom Chambers said, "Oh my goodness. The first person I want to thank is my wife. I can't believe my luck. I can't believe how jammy I am to have married you in the first place."

Tom then turned to his pro partner and told her, "Tonight is about you. You absolutely deserve this."

Runner up Rachel Stevens was the best dancer but she didn't have Tom's - to pinch another show's title - X Factor. He was the person the audience took to and voted for.

Well done Tom!

Burglar Steals Paris Hitlon Jewels

Paris Hilton wasn't at her home last night in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles so a burglar decided he would pop in and steal $2 million's worth of jewellery.

Police say that a hooded man, who was wearing gloves (that should narrow it down!), entered the Paris household through the front door and then ransacked her bedroom and pinched her jewellery.

Alexandra Burke In Tears As She Wins X Factor

As expected Alexandra Burke won last night's X Factor final and is now destined to be the UK's number one single at Christmas. Downloads started from midnight. The Hallelujah (Single) will be released on the 17th of December.

JLS were second with Eoghan Quigg third.

Alexandra, again as expected, burst into tears as did Cheryl Cole and everyone was happily blubbing away so much so that Alex was virtually unable to talk.

As for Simon Cowell he was delighted and hugged Cheryl as he blissfully closed his eyes and counted his future earnings in his head. It was the right result for him as Alexandra could well become another Leona Lewis and do well in the US as well.

Over 8 million votes were cast for the final result.

X Factor Final Tonight

Alexandra Burke and Eoghan QuiggIt's the final of the X Factor blubberthon tonight. No doubt tears will flow over the stage and down Cheryl Cole's lovely face. The favourite to win is Alexandra Burke. In an unofficial Internet poll she has 56% of the vote with JLS second on 31% and diddy little Eoghan Quigg on just 13%. The phone vote may, of course, come up with something completely different. A lot of late money at the bookies is for JLS.
