Pop singer Katy Perry has been telling of how her record bosses originally wanted to turn her into a duplicate of Avril Lavigne. Kate said, "When I first started at 17, the hit song was Complicated (by Avril Lavigne) and everyone wanted me to write a Complicated. I said, 'Look, that's her and this is me. Everybody loves her song and hopefully everyone will like mine.'" Which sounds fair enough!

Jade Goody
The UK reality television celebrity, Jade Goody, is to have an operation today to fix a blocked kidney. She has recently been feeling ill following chemotherapy in her battle with cervical cancer. She has had to drop out of her pantomime role in Snow White in Lincoln.

The Lord musical man, Andrew Lloyd Webber, has put his head on the block and has agreed to compose the UK's 2009 Eurovision Song Contest entry. As the contest has become something of a farce, it must be asked why on earth he would want to do this. He said, "I thought it would be fun." Okay M'Lord!

Celebrity Big Brother
Here we go again. The UK Celebrity version of Big Brother kicks off tonight at 9pm an Chanel 4. As usual a mixed bag of celebs are to take part, the highest paid being Ulrika Jonsson - why? Along with others the motley crew includes: Verne Troyer, La Toya Jackson, Lucy Pinder, Terry Christian and Tommy Sheridan. Producers are desperate to make this series a success as interest in the show generally is declining rapidly.

According to Hello Magazine Simon Cowell is adding to his portfolio of houses on Barbados. He already has a £5 million villa but has now bought a ten acre site which will be developed into a 6 bedroom property with luxurious swimming and, of course, a helipad. A friend told the Daily Mirror, "Simon says the project is his pride and joy and that he'll be personally overseeing the whole building process. No expense will be spared. It will have all the latest gizmos and boy's toys."
