Actress Wendy Richard Dies Of Cancer

For many years Wendy was a popular star in British television. She was in EastEnders for more than 20 years, in her role as the long suffering Pauline Fowler. She first came to be noticed on the screen for a more glamorous role, that of the young, buxom Miss Brahms in the 70's comedy Are You being Served?

Wendy Richard in her later yearsWendy also reached number one in the UK singles chart in 1962 as part of the novelty pop song Come Outside where she had a comical duo with Mike Sarne. She only received a flat fee of £15 for doing the single despite it being in the charts for 19 weeks.

Since 1996 she was with her partner John Burns, a painter and decorator 20 years her junior. They married in October 2008 after her cancer had been diagnosed as terminal.
